This Donor/Recipient Transplant Gift Set is exactly like the all sterling silver set listed on this site except that the recipient pendant has an 18K gold plated kidney “added” on because transplants are GOLDEN! The gold is electroplated with 2 micron thick 18k gold. It is then lacquered to deter sterling tarnish from migrating upwards. Each 1″ long pendant is shaped like a kidney while forming one wing half of a butterfly, symbolizing transformation, a perfect symbol for transplants. The pendant with a kidney “removed,” goes to the living donor/or a donor family member. The pendant with the “golden kidney” goes to the recipient.
I can also make this set with one or both small sterling silver key rings instead of the chains. The set price is the same for either 2 chains, 2 small key rings or one chain/1 ring. Note: The 19.5mm key ring can comfortably hold a few keys only. There is currently another listing for a Keyring/Pendant set which is linked below, keep scrolling down towards the bottom of this page. I have a few different sets with different key rings. Feel free to message me with the combination you would like.
PLEASE NOTE: I do NOT offer engraving services. That needs to be done by your local jeweler. I recommend calling around for prices. They may need to see the piece first, Ask them what fonts/size they would recommend for your message and allotted space.
Pendants come with standard 18″ sterling silver chains. If you need shorter chains, I usually keep 16″ in stock. If you need longer chains, 20” or 22″ chains are sometimes available at extra cost, but please contact me before ordering and I will send you a Paypal invoice for your order total. You do NOT need to have a paypal account to pay a business invoice. Pendants are packed together in one box on a backing card to give it the “Butterfly Effect” symbolizing transformation. Each pendant has its own kidney colored drawstring bag, care sheet and information about my background as a kidney recipient and what inspired me to create this collection. (Two sets of info cards are included.)
Please store in the airtight zip bag provided to prevent tarnish. Pendant backsides are flat in case you want your local jeweler to engrave a short phrase or date at your local jeweler. Suggestion: Engrave HERO on one!
Shipping within Illinois will include sales tax.
Priority shipping is recommended for this item. Priority ships insured, in a box, arriving within 2-5 days within the US but USPS is still running slower than any of us would like. I try to ship in the next outgoing mail after payment arrives, but once it leave my studio, it is up to USPS. First Class is shipped in a bubble envelope and can take between 3-10 days to arrive, possibly longer during pandemics and holiday season. There is no insurance included for First Class.
International orders are available on the website shopping cart and are set for standard (slower/less expensive). If your country is not listed on the drop down menu, please contact me with your postal code, your order request and a message as to whether you prefer standard shipping (slower) or Priority International (Faster, but $$) I’ll let you know the shipping costs for your country, adding it to the drop down shipping menu in the shopping cart. Please note that your country may hold an item in customs for a customs tax. This does not happen to every order that ships, so I don’t know whether your order will be taxed or not. These taxes are not in my control. They are levied by your customs department. You may want to check with them to see if you can find out ahead of time what the tax might be. From what I hear, they vary quite a bit so I don’t have any idea of how it is determined.
Alternately, I can also email your invoice via Paypal for your credit card payment Be sure to let me know your email address in that case. You do NOT need a paypal account to pay a business invoice using a credit card.

Kidney transplants between recipients and living donors have thankfully become more commonplace, thanks in part to the miraculous paired donation chain events, altruistic donors, social media and growing awareness among the public about our great need for kidneys. Gift sets are a wonderful way to show appreciation for our donors and honor their sacrifice while also acting as conversation pieces to bring about donation awareness for the Gift of Life.
In late 2016, there were 121,678 people waiting for lifesaving organ transplants in the US, 100,791 were waiting for kidneys. The latest statistics from 2014, show there were 17,107 kidney transplant surgeries in the US. 11,570 came from deceased donors and 5537 from living donors.
Some interesting statistics below show the growth of organ transplants, especially for kidneys. Thank you to the Washington Post’s Linda Searing for this information and to Transplant Village who shared some of it on Facebook. It’s great to know living donation is increasing, with hopes for so many more who need kidneys.
Year 2019: In what turned out to be a record-setting year, 39,717 organs were transplanted in 2019 in the USA. It was the seventh consecutive year that the number of organ transplants has increased. Kidney transplants were the most common, with 23,401 people getting a new kidney last year, followed by transplants of the liver (8,896), heart (3,551) and lung (2,714). Most donated organs came from 11,780 people who had died, a 38 percent increase in deceased donors since 2014. Transplants from living donors — 7,397 — also were at an all-time high. Still, not everyone who needs a new organ gets one.

Since introducing the “Butterfly” sets of 2 pendants in 2016, they have flown out from my studio across the globe. There’s simply no way to adequately say “thank you” to someone who is willing to give up a part of themselves to sustain life for your child. It’s very humbling, and I wanted to find something that would be a lasting reminder of the selfless act of a friend and the overwhelming gratitude of one receiving such a life-giving gift.
I just received the pendants today, and they are absolutely beautiful… just perfect! They are in nice gift boxes with much attention to detail to make a lovely presentation.
