Large, Whimsical, Upcycled Kidney Transplant Gift-Queen of Parts Pin/Brooch/Pendant (#QP-4)

Looking for something fun AND sophisticated to give as a kidney transplant gift? This is a one of a kind (OOAK) gift for kidney recipients or living donors or a gift idea for someone with a flair for fun and drama, who also loves kidneys!. This is one of the pieces in my Queen of Parts Series. I began making these from a collection of vintage costume jewelry crown pin/brooches about 16 years ago. I’ve just recently uncovered my box of crowns to which I’ve added kidney bead drops, making them whimsical gifts for yourself or a gift of glitz and glamour. This vintage crown brooch has all of its jewels and crystals intact. It was well cared for.

This vintage pin has a loop on back so it can be worn as a pendant on a chain, or as a pin. Size is LARGE, 85mm tall (3.5″) x 53mm (2-1/8″)  wide and weighs 1.4 oz, the most substantial of the series so far. It’s glitzy, dramatic, yet playful. I recommend Priority shipping for this piece, particularly if your order is time sensitive. I began upcycling vintage crown pins and adding kidney dangles in 2005. They’re fun, playful, amusing yet somehow, also elegant. They tell our kidney story. We recipients, and our donors, are queens of the kidneys! This series makes great conversation pieces. I have now acquired a new collection of the vintage crowns, so more will be in the works as time permits. I will try to keep several listed here at the same time. Most are OOAK (one of a kind) but occasionally I find the vintage pins still packed in original manufacturer boxes (vintage GOLD to collectors like me), so I’m able to create a limited edition of a design.

This vintage brooch is beautifully made, but unsigned.The brooch itself is likely attributed to the Mazer Brothers Collection (1926-1951), but also known at Jomaz from 1944-1981. This collectible crown pin looks identical to ones dating from about 1949. The early ones were sometimes not signed.

This is the largest Queen of Parts Pin I’ve made and it’s quite dramatic. . Remarkably, it has all its jeweled crystal and glass stones in place. The crown is edged in tiny faux pearls, how royal (except for the faux part!)! The center kidney below is gold plated, cast metal and ends with a Czech red glass heart bead. The 2 smaller kidneys are gold plated pewter and on the far ends are 2 textured glass, kidney shaped, faux pearls.  It comes with the hard cased box shown in the photos. It should be worn on a heavier base fabric for pinning such as a wool or felt. Most knit materials are not recommended.

Since you are making an investment with this piece, I recommend that you choose Priority shipping as it comes with insurance and it’s unlikely that this piece can be duplicated. I pack carefully either way you choose to ship, but if this is at all time sensitive, be sure to use Priority to avoid delivery disappointment. USPS has announced a major slowdown in mail delivery from now on. I try my best to ship in the next outgoing mail after your order is placed but it could take an extra during the height of any busy season.
